HORIZON 2045

Horizon 2045 is a longterm systems change effort to develop and bring about a model for global security independent of nuclear weapons.

-Framework for Change

H2045 combines the expertise of those working in the nuclear space and the innovative foresight of futurists, with the creative process integral to design. Together, a 25-year initiative to end the nuclear weapons century is co-created, including seven shifts integral to a future security architecture free from nuclear weapons. Working with Altimeter Design Group, I created speculative artifacts that helped visualize the seven shifts and expand their influence.

H2045 is a collaboration between N Square, RISDs Center for Complexity, and the Nuclear Threat Initiative. To learn more visit- horizon2045.org

Ecosystem Violation Tickets

Ecosystem stewardship is legally enforced at a granular level, paired with advanced monitoring technology that holds offenders accountable. Citations are written for offenses like microplastic traces found in an alpine trout and invasive species used for decorative purposes in urban gardens. How tightly might we bind ourselves to being better ancestors? At what scale should commitments be enforced?

"The Wall of Lasts" Centerpiece

Cross-sectional slice from a white oak- the very last tree cut down for commercial purposes. Installed to memorialize the pivotal role played by the International Security and Innovation Collective (ISAIC), the wall commemorates unsustainable practices that the organization has worked to end since its inception. It also records notable extinctions due to a lack of urgency in passing legislation. What might we commemorate with shifted priorities? What can be accomplished when mourning is actionable?"

'R' is for Rewilding  . . .

Children are entering a world that is far less hospitable than it used to be. The standard learning toys we grew up with no longer reflect our reality or shared future. 'A' is for Apple and 'B' is for  Ball . . can only depict a story that now more closely resembles a fairytale. Prefix/ base/ suffix blocks bring concepts such as postwildable and intersecurity into a child's vocabulary early on. As we reckon with the irreversible harm inflicted on the planet- How might we empower the next generation to build a better future?
